What to do in an eye emergency

If you experience an eye emergency, it’s essential to seek immediate care to prevent further damage or complications. Here’s what you can do:

  • Call Pittsburgh Primary Eyecare at (412) 381-1542 for guidance and to schedule an emergency appointment. If we are unavailable, call 911 or head to the nearest emergency room.
  • Avoid rubbing or applying pressure to the affected eye. Do not attempt to remove a foreign object on your own.
  • If you have chemicals in your eyes, rinse your eyes gently with clean water for 10-15 minutes before seeking medical help.
  • Do not drive yourself if you are experiencing vision changes or an emergency. Have someone drive you to our office or the emergency room.
